Spotlight on STANSW Resources

Ken Baumgarner, STANSW Councillor

I would like to take a moment to highlight one of the teaching resources available to STANSW members - The Padlet. This was developed during COVID to support teachers with online teaching. It is also a relevant and useful resource for teaching today.

To find it, go to the STANSW website and look under the Resources tab. You'll then need to sign in with your member sign in details and this will bring you to Teaching Resources, then scroll to Padlet – Teaching resources.

Here is the direct link to find the Padlet: https://padlet.com/STANSW/teaching-resources-ktf7x8qxclbo

The Padlet is organised in various sections housing useful teaching tools, ideas and resources. The sections include:

  • About this Padlet
  • Platforms and tools (non-content related)
  • Teaching tips, blogs and how-to’s
  • Science skills resources and mixed topic areas
  • Primary science resources
    • Example: ABC education
  • Biology resources
    • Example: Mangrove Virtual Field trip
  • Chemistry resources
    • Example: Depth Study resources
  • Physics resources
    • Example: Physics simulations
  • EES resources
    • Example: Regional NSW Geo trail
  • Marine Science resources
    • Example: Plastic Oceans
  • Investigating science resources
    • Example: HHMI bio interactive site for DNA modelling
  • Science Extension resources
    • Example: Module 1 resources
  • STEM resources
    • Example: QUESTACON
  • Simulations that work without flash
    • Example: PHET simulations

In the coming months, we will be adding the following sections, reflective of the new science syllabus requirements.

  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander resources
  • Citizen science
  • Working Scientifically skills
  • Data science
  • 7-10 syllabus assessment mapping

We are working on The Padlet to make it more up to date for teachers and you can use the thumbs up or thumbs down buttons on each Padlet section to indicate feedback. STANSW welcomes your feedback on these resources and you can share any suggestions with me at ken.baumgarner@stansw.asn.au to collaborate with the team and improve the available resources.
